The Latest

Published by Jason Feinberg under Other

Been 2 weeks since an update – oops! Things are unbelievably busy here at OTMG. We are currently working, about to start, or have just finished the following projects:

  • James Robinson
  • Neal Schon
  • Billy Sheehan
  • Reeves Gabrels
  • Tommy Emmanuel
  • Danny McGuinness
  • Heiarii

Not to mention the 4 or 5 deals in the pipeline we are finalizing. Whew!

It’s an interesting time in the biz. So much change going on – label execs are moving around, major companies are folding, and small companies are exploding. We’re busy staying on top of current technology trends, as that is shaping the jobs in the industry at an alarming rate. A few of the more interesting sites and technologies worth checking out:

  • Wraptor – Click Here
  • Goombah – Click Here

More to come – check back soon!

    Advice For The New Guy

The biggest, consistent mistake people make who have just recently found a way into the music industry is also one of the easiest to avoid: Forgetting that they are paying their dues and that many people have put in a LOT of work before them to get where they are.

It rarely matters how much you know or how good you are – until you have proven yourself with simple dilligence and time, you will not be taken seriously. The people at the top didn’t just appear there – they have put in years (or decades) to achieve what they have.

So here’s some nuggets of advice for the new guy:

  • Never forget you are the new guy. You shouldn’t be disrespected because of it, but you should never overstep your bounds. Always be thinking about how you are appearing to your bosses and coworkers.
  • Learn as much as you can – that is your role at the bottom. Unless you are asked for it, rarely will your input or ideas be looked at as a warranted contribution. People have egos and if you step on them you are committing career suicide.
  • Forget about money, titles, and promotions. If you aren’t in the biz for the love of music, get out now. It’s going to be a long road with little pay and little recognition at the start. But we all started at the bottom, and those of us with common sense and passion have made it past those days.

    New And Old Music

Published by Jason Feinberg under Other

I do enjoy having an office a block away from Amoeba Records in Hollywood. I also spend a lot of money at Amoeba.

Bought a few CDs today – A Black Flag bootleg, a Wesley Willis greatest hits, and a new band called Hawthorne Heights.

Black Flag never ceases to be phenomenal, and this is from a live show during the Loose Nut tour – my favorite lineup. Basically very similiar to Who’s Got The 10 1/2 which is my favorite Flag record. Spectacular.

Wesely Willis – Love him or hate him. Enough said.

I wanted to like the HH record, but it is a little too similar to so much else out there. I guess I am looking for a band to fill in some holes, but they aren’t going to be it. Not bad, just not my thing.
