Hey Jason,

Great information. I am struggling to market myself. Have you seen this website and do you think this seminar would help me?

www.theothermusicindustry.com

I have friends who sell their songs online and I'd like to learn how.

Joe - it is not impossible, but I'd suggest doing everything on your own before trying to get a label. Sell some CDs, go on the road, etc.. Show them you can do decent without their help, then they'll be more inclined to bring your friend on board.

This is probably not the best place to ask this question, but...

Do you have any advice for talent seeking a record deal and management?

My friend (www.terry-barber.com) in the crossover pop/classical genre is truly outstanding -- and has an incredible range, style/look, etc.

Is it impossible to get a deal in the current market?

Hey, Jason! I'm just back from an extended hiatus from reading others' blogs and look - you've been doing some great posting! It's ALWAYS good reading your blog, and I always do glean something useful.

As a singer, on some kind of weird re-discovery of singing and being a Mom and a writer, well... a human being, this post really hit home for me! I've really been living what you are talking about here. (www.musictoliveby.blogspot.com)

It is super important to remember who one is at one's core, what really, really, REALLY fires you up personally, what connects you to others, and it's good also to shuck off the old limiting crap and shallow labels that we put on ourselves or on others.

It's hard work but worth it, honoring and nurturing those core gifts while building (forging? ouch!) a new direction or identity in career/relationship/life.

Thanks as always for your blog and your posts. We're out here listening and learning!
